AR: Advocates Question Effectiveness, Fairness of Sex Offender Registry

Carla Swanson doesn’t object to Arkansas’ sex offender registry, but she thinks it should contain a lot fewer than the 14,000 names currently listed. “So many on the registry are not a threat to society,” Swanson said. “I’m against it being flooded with so many sex offenders” the predators can’t be adequately tracked.

Experts and some studies agree with Swanson, director of Arkansas Time After Time, an organization formed in 2010 to advocate for reforming the sex offender laws. Full Article

There is an unintended consequence to having an extremely punitive sex offender registry and that is most offenses are committed by family members and those know to the victim. By the registry being punitive against families and not just to individuals doesn’t it seem logical that victims will not report abuses in order to protect their family as a whole? So, the punitive nature of the registry by default becomes it’s own worst enemy.

I think the entire “sex offender” thing is ridiculous. Things worked the way they were before Megan Kanka was killed. This one incident seems to have brought the lunatics out of the closet. Now millions are being punished for this one incident. This article seems to be another intellectual piece on an issue that paradoxically is a non issue. Is Janice the only fighter in the USA? I’m still waiting for someone else, somewhere, anywhere to stand up and stop saying and start doing. So far from what I can see Janice is the only one in the country that consistently tales the bull s**t by the horns and consistently gets results. I think I’ll start an online store and sell sets of balls to attorneys. God knows they need some. I think I’ll offer them to scared legislators too!

HOW THE F*** can it be legal to collect PASSWORDS of PRIVATE EMAIL accounts??????? What’s next, copies of keys to registered citizens’ homes????????

Of course he couldn’t provide a recidivism rate!!! That rate wouldn’t justify his bench-warming job! What a hack!
